Installation and Performance. Sound, body, and wooden structure.
The process of building this space was visceral, and concrete. A room holds symbolic meaning. It is a space that holds things; memory, history, and ideas. Upon entering this room, in its raw state, I started making marks. Emphatic, quick, and rhythmic. It was day 3 of the war in Gaza. Each mark was a meditation, a remembrance.
It has now been a year since the war began, and more than 40,000 people have died. Thousands displaced, stalled negotiations, and hostages never returned. This artistic gesture is small and inconsequential compared to the vast suffering of our collective consciousness. The work is meant to hold space for this immense suffering. As a performance, I am addressing this in the only way I know how, through meditation. I invite you to take a breath as well. Feel gratitude for this air that we share, holding space for those who are suffering.
