Toni Parker was born in Des Moines, IA and raised in a working-class, mixed-race household. Always existing in two worlds, she was primarily raised by her mother, whose black experience rooted in generational trauma, garnered a colorful yet troubling world of unhealed wounds. A father, who’s native Slovakia was a source of pain and beauty, haunted the home in a way that was hidden but ever present. The artist’s interdisciplinary practice is infused with process-oriented artworks and reflective writing on embodiment, life drawing, and Buddhist practice.
Presently, she lives with her partner and two children in Lincoln, NE, while pursuing an MFA in painting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
