Raised in a family of creative, contemplative, and complex women; what remains are unseen traces. The bodily and emotional connection I have to these women and their Black experience, shape not just my perspective, but artistic instinct. I am interested in the generational intimations within the body, such as joy, desire, fear, wonder, and hope. In the process of drawing, what is carried out is a sincere act of love and commemoration. Gestural abstractions are the bedrock from which these women emerge. The drawing then becomes an act of honing, examining, and honoring the figure as an ephemeral yet transcendent image.
